PERIPHERALS: MONITORING
Product Specification PDFs: Energy Tracker, Energy Tracer
Measure your energy production in real time.
When we began looking for a way to monitor our own solar and wind energy production at West Central Telephone Association (Zenergy’s parent company), there was no simple system of measurement on the market. Many of the available products had useful pieces of the puzzle but with no comprehensive solution, and most of the existing tools for analyzing data were far from user-friendly.
Never shy to do it ourselves, we partnered with Solar Energy Technologies (a division of MeasureTech) to use existing “building blocks” from their state-of-the-art solar energy measurement tools to develop a software-based monitoring solution that presents information about the entire Zenergy renewable energy system. Their EnergyTraker™ monitoring system made data available for real-time and historical viewing including AC wind power generation, current prevailing wind speeds, wind power curves of the turbine, wind speed distribution curves, solar generated AC and DC power, solar energy received at the solar panels, outside ambient temperature, AC power from inverter and battery back-up charge status.
Zenergy’s research helped answer the broader questions of “what to measure?” while our partnership with Solar Energy Technologies has provided the technical means to execute the data collection. Once the tools were in place, we were able to gain great insights into the measurements and inter-relationships of the various renewable energy system components.
The information EnergyTraker™ records is detailed, but once installed on a PC, EnergyTraker™ works simply, showing the user current and long-term energy measurements numerically and graphically. The real-time display lets you see exactly what your system is doing and where the energy is flowing at the moment in an easy-to-understand energy screen picture. Customized report options allow you to view historic line graphs, or bar graphs of the daily, weekly, and monthly averages or totals. You can even compare up to 4 different data parameters on one screen.
EnergyTraker’s most unique benefit, however, may be its remote operation feature. As Internet Service Providers, West Central Telephone Association had the expertise on staff to help Solar Energy Technologies quickly develop the ability to view energy measurements from several systems on one computer via the internet. In addition to contributing to Zenergy’s mastery of a variety of monitoring systems, it also allows our specialists to remotely troubleshoot the energy systems of its customers.* The customer can access their data remotely from any computer connected to the Internet by using the same software we use to monitor our wind and solar systems.
